Installing Latest CakePHP (1.2.0.5875 pre-beta)

Hooray! A fresh release of CakePHP 1.2. The old one's been going forever! I installed it tonight on www.meterclocks.com, to be greeted by a stoney silence (0 bytes response). The previous version had a nice page that indicated when a connection to the database had been successfully made.

First off, I had to set tmp permissions to writable. Then I noticed a php error saying salt value must be changed. A bit fascist for beginners, but fair enough I thought. New value, no change. Humph. Valid database access values in conf/database.php made no difference.

Arse. Going to unzip the archive using cpanel file manager so it owns the files. Nada. Deleted everything in app/tmp - Yay! That provoked it into a strop. Recreating logs directory made a few errors go away. Stuck again and off to bed. I'm a bit cross having to go through this tedious crap, pity the poor newb who's going to give up way before here cos Cake rocks.

They should tie in with Steam's Portal. How long before someone releases the CakeWCC extension. Night.
